Galway City Council has welcomed the decision by An Coimisiún Pleanála to approve the proposed New Port of Galway.
The permitted extension of the Port of Galway will allow the continued operation and expansion of core port activities, reinforcing its position as a key economic asset for the city and the wider region. The new extension is also expected to create future opportunities to transform and redevelop the inner harbour area.
Galway Harbour Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Galway City Council, and the council will proceed to the next stage of the project following a detailed review of An Coimisiún Pleanála’s decision.
The upcoming phase will include detailed design, procurement and financing, in line with the relevant national infrastructure guidelines and governance requirements.
