Newry-headquartered MJM Marine has been awarded a major new contract by Azamara Cruises, continuing a long-standing partnership between the two organisations.
The project will involve a significant refit programme aboard the Azamara Quest cruise ship as part of the cruise line's wider 'Azamara Forward' initiative — described as its most extensive fleetwide renovation to date.
The refurbishment will take place in Greece and will include a wide range of upgrades designed to enhance the onboard experience while maintaining the brand’s established identity. Planned improvements span refreshed staterooms, redesigned public areas, new dining concepts and updated social spaces.
A key feature of the project will be the introduction of a new Penthouse Deck, delivered by MJM Marine, which will include 12 additional suites — representing a major expansion of capacity on the vessel.
The contract builds on previous collaboration between the two companies, including the refit of the Azamara Pursuit in Belfast in 2018. That project was one of the largest and most complex cruise ship refurbishments undertaken in the city, highlighting Belfast’s capabilities in high-value marine engineering.
Now operating under new ownership, Azamara Cruises continues to invest in its four-ship fleet, with the renewed partnership reflecting confidence in MJM Marine’s expertise and delivery track record.
The agreement was finalised in Newry and formally announced at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami.
"This partnership with MJM Marine reflects our commitment to thoughtfully evolving the Azamara Cruises experience while delivering the highest-quality enhancements for our guests," said Dondra Ritzenthaler, CEO of Azamara Cruises. "Their deep understanding of our brand and our standards made them the natural choice to support the Azamara Forward programme. Together, we are excited to bring the next phase of our fleet’s transformation to life, creating new spaces that will deepen connection to both the ship and the destinations our guests explore."
