The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, officially reopened the newly refurbished Lourdes Parish Hall in Seán McDermott Street.

The project, which was supported by €770,000 in funding allocated to Dublin City Council via the Government's Community Recognition Fund in 2023, has delivered significant internal and external upgrades.

The facility serves as a vital hub for local residents, currently hosting the Lourdes Day Care Centre—which provides activities for the elderly, such as arts, crafts, and social outings—as well as the Francesca Arkins Dance Academy and the Dublin One Force Taekwon Do Club.

Speaking at the reopening, Minister Calleary noted the broader impact of the funding: "The Community Recognition Fund was introduced in 2023 to recognise the huge efforts made by communities in welcoming and supporting people coming to Ireland. Communities, like those here in Seán Mac Dermott Street and the inner city, where huge efforts have been made to integrate new arrivals into our community."

The refurbishment has addressed long-standing structural issues and enhanced the building's versatility. Key improvements include the addition of a modern kitchen, a new studio space, and increased storage capacity, enabling the hall to accommodate a more diverse range of events and activities.

To date, the Community Recognition Fund has provided approximately €100 million to support nearly 1,000 completed projects nationwide, including children's play areas, sensory spaces, recreational trails, and sports facilities.

"The refurbishment works completed here in Lourdes Parish have not only addressed the long-standing structural issues but have also significantly expanded the hall's available space and usability," Minister Calleary added. "I would encourage everyone to make full use of this fantastic facility."
