Amey has been awarded the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award (<£5m) at the prestigious Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) Northern Ireland Awards. The accolade recognises the company's work on the Moylinn footbridge replacement, a project delivered in partnership with FP McCann and the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).
The project successfully replaced a vital pedestrian and cycle crossing over the A3 road in Craigavon, County Armagh. By restoring this connection, the team has effectively re-linked residential areas with local schools and reinstated a key segment of the Black Paths Cycle Network. With daily usage exceeding 150 crossings, the bridge is already providing measurable social value by enhancing safety and promoting active travel for the local community.
Beyond connectivity, the project achieved notable environmental and economic milestones:
• Carbon Reduction: The scheme delivered approximately 65% lower whole-life carbon, resulting in an estimated saving of 50 tonnes of CO2—a 30% reduction in structure-related embodied and whole-life carbon.
• Efficiency: Maintenance intervals have been extended to up to 60 years, which is expected to lower whole-life costs by 50% by reducing future inspection and refurbishment needs.
Susan Evans, Business Sector Director for Amey, commented: "We are delighted to have won the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award. The Moylinn footbridge replacement scheme is a strong example of how outcomes-led infrastructure design and delivery can create lasting benefits for local communities, improving safety, connectivity and accessibility for all while also contributing positively to net carbon future."
She added: "This recognition is testament to the expertise and commitment of our engineering teams and highlights our ability to deliver high-quality design and consulting solutions that make a real difference for our clients and the communities they serve."
This win marks Amey's first success at the CIHT Northern Ireland Awards since the event's inception two years ago, further establishing the company's reputation in active travel assessment, structural design, and project management.
