Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 2 Launches Community Benefit Fund

Oweninny Power 2 DAC—a 50:50 joint venture between ESB and Bord na Móna (BnM)—has officially opened the application process for the Oweninny Wind Farm Phase 2 RESS Community Benefit Fund. The initiative is designed to support local community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and social enterprises that operate or serve areas situated near the wind farm.

The fund aims to bolster public and environmental wellbeing in the local area, ensuring that communities neighbouring the development see tangible benefits in recognition of their continued support for the project. Interested parties have until Friday, 15 May 2026, at 5:00pm to submit their applications.

Speaking on behalf of Oweninny Power 2 DAC, BnM's CSR Manager, Benedicta Durcan, said: "We are really looking forward to working with the local communities on the delivery of projects which will benefit the people living near to the wind farm. Oweninny Power 2 DAC is committed to ensuring that local communities benefit from the development of renewable energy infrastructure projects in their area, which are needed to ensure Ireland's energy security. Our team will continue to work closely with the local community in the rollout of the Scheme and are eager to hear from anyone with project ideas."

William Farrington, Manager of Wind Operations at ESB, added: "At ESB, community benefit is embedded in the way we plan, build and operate renewable energy projects. Oweninny Wind Farm has been built with the support of local communities, and this Fund is a meaningful way of ensuring that support translates into practical benefits on the ground. We are proud to work in partnership with BnM to deliver clean energy while creating positive social and environmental outcomes for the region."

The administration of the Community Benefit Fund will be handled by the independent body, SECAD Partnership CLG. All applications will undergo a formal review, assessment, and scoring process conducted by a local Fund Committee, which is composed of representatives from the communities adjacent to the wind farm.
