Fingal County Council, in collaboration with Meath County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), has announced the commencement of a public consultation for a major transport upgrade along the N3 corridor.
The project, titled the N3 M50 to Clonee Bus Priority and Active Travel Scheme, has progressed to Phase 2: Options Selection. This phase focuses on a 5.4-kilometre stretch between Junction 2 (Snugborough) and Junction 4B (Clonee), where an emerging preferred option for the route has been identified.
Consulting engineers ROD-AECOM have been tasked with assessing various design options aimed at introducing faster, more reliable bus services while enhancing walking and cycling infrastructure. The project is part of the National Development Plan 2021–2030 and was refined last year to place a greater emphasis on sustainable transport and improved accessibility.
The key objectives of the proposed improvements include:
• Increasing the speed and reliability of bus journeys
• Upgrading facilities for pedestrians and cyclists
• Improving overall road safety for all users
• Integrating with the wider BusConnects network and regional transport projects
• Public Consultation and Events
The public consultation window is open now until 18 May 2026. Residents, businesses, and commuters are encouraged to review the maps and technical drawings and submit their feedback via the Fingal County Council consultation portal at consult.fingal.ie/browse.
In addition to the online resources, two in-person information events will be held where members of the project team will be available to answer questions:
- Tuesday, 28 April 2026 (4.00pm – 7.30pm): Blanchardstown Library, Civic Centre, Blanchardstown Centre, D15 RY73.
- Wednesday, 29 April 2026 (4.00pm – 7.30pm): Meath County Council Offices, Drumree Road, Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, A85 XK20.
By participating in the consultation, stakeholders can help shape the future of one of the region's busiest transit routes, ensuring it supports a more sustainable and resilient transport network for the growing local population.
