Uisce Éireann is set to begin works to renew old and damaged water mains in Sheens Forge, Churchtown, Mallow, Co. Cork, as part of efforts to deliver a more dependable water supply for the local community.
The project will see approximately 820 metres of modern piping installed along Egmont View and the L1322, reinforcing the network and helping to minimise disruption for households and businesses.
The existing mains have been prone to bursts and leaks, leading to interruptions in supply and the loss of treated drinking water.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we're helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Churchtown now and for generations to come."
Works are due to start in early May and include installing new service connections from the public main in the roadway to customers' property boundaries, linking them to individual water supplies.
The scheme is being delivered by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by June 2026.

With more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationwide—enough to circle the Earth one and a half times—identifying and fixing leaks can be complex. National leakage is at its lowest level, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today. Further information is available on Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme page.
