Uisce Éireann has announced the successful completion of two significant water network upgrade projects in County Donegal and County Longford, delivering improved water quality and a more resilient supply to thousands of customers.
In East Donegal, planned works to upgrade the water network serving the Twin Towns and surrounding areas have been concluded. The project involved the installation of a new connection along the N15, spanning from McClays Corner to the Admiral Park junction in Stranorlar.
As part of this ongoing investment, more than 700 metres of ageing water mains are being replaced. These improvements are designed to:
- Reduce the risk of bursts and unplanned outages.
- Enhance water quality for local residents.
- Ensure a more reliable supply for businesses across Stranorlar, Ballybofey, Drumkeen, Convoy, Raphoe, Killygordon, and Castlefinn.
Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, thanked the local community for their patience, stating: "We are pleased to confirm that these installation works were completed successfully... these essential works will deliver long-term benefits for Stranorlar and the wider East Donegal area."
The community in Ballymahon is now benefiting from a more robust water supply following the completion of 5km of water main upgrades along the N55. Delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, the works spanned the section between Carrickedmond Church and Ballymahon Mart.
The upgrade is a key investment in the region's infrastructure, focusing on:
- Reducing leakage within the local network.
- Minimising disruption by replacing sections of the network prone to bursts.
- Improving resilience for homes and businesses in the Ballymahon area.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager for the Leakage Reduction Programme, commented: "By upgrading sections of ageing watermains along the N55, we are strengthening the network and reducing the risk of disruption for local homes and businesses. These works form part of our ongoing programme to deliver a more reliable and resilient water supply for communities, and we would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and cooperation while the works were carried out."
The project was delivered by Ward & Burke Construction in partnership with Longford County Council. Throughout the project, Uisce Éireann maintained active engagement with local stakeholders to manage the impact of the works and keep the community informed.
