Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has completed the refurbishment of the Station Square skatepark zone in Portrush, with the facility now fully operational for public use. The upgrade project focused on modernising the well-established hub to better serve local and visiting skateboarders.

The primary works involved the installation of a suite of new skate ramps. The layout of the upgraded zone was developed in collaboration with the Station Square Working Group, whose input ensured the design reflects the practical needs of the skateboarding community. The project sought to enhance a space that is recognised as a vital gathering point for young people and a focal point for activity within the town.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, welcomed the completion of the works, stating: "We know this space has become a central meeting point for young people and a vibrant part of Portrush life, and its importance to wellbeing and community connection has been clearly recognised.

"We are delighted to see the upgraded facilities now in place and ready for use. I would like to thank the community for their patience, and the Station Square Working Group for their constructive input, which has helped shape a space that reflects how it is already used and valued."

The council highlighted that the improved skatepark is intended to be a positive attraction for the region. To ensure the longevity of the new equipment and the safety of users, the council has designated the zone solely for skateboarding, with other uses prohibited. Safety protocols remain in place, requiring children to be supervised by an adult at all times and for all visitors to adhere to on-site signage.

The reopening marks the conclusion of the planned maintenance and improvement works, providing an enhanced environment for the Portrush skateboarding community.
