Uisce Éireann is moving forward with a project to replace damaged and outdated water mains connecting Celbridge and Newcastle. To facilitate the upcoming stage of this infrastructure upgrade, a temporary road closure has been announced for Celbridge to ensure the safety of the workforce and the public.
This initiative is a key component of the Celbridge to Newcastle water mains replacement project, managed under the national Leakage Reduction Programme. The works were fast-tracked to resolve ongoing network complications in Celbridge. Once finished, the new, larger pipeline will provide the capacity needed for future growth in the region.
To ensure the project proceeds efficiently, the following road closure will be implemented:
The R405, Hazelhatch Road, Celbridge, will be closed between Shinkeen Road and Newtown Road from Wednesday, 6 May until Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
During this period, diversion routes will be clearly marked. Access for local residents and emergency services will be preserved throughout the duration of the works.
Nicola Butler of Uisce Éireann commented on the development: "These works are required to address the repeated network issues in Celbridge and to enable future development in both Celbridge and Newcastle. We understand that temporary road closures can be inconvenient, and we, along with our contractors GMC, will ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. We thank the community for their patience while this vital work is being carried out."
GMC Utilities Group Ltd. is delivering the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the entire scheme projected for completion in 2027.
