Uisce Éireann has announced the successful completion of a 1km water mains replacement project at The Haw in Lifford. Delivered by Farrans, the project focused on a stretch of the N15 to address historic leakage issues and enhance the quality of water provided to local residents and businesses.
In addition to replacing the primary mains, the works included the installation of new water service connections from the public main to individual customer boundaries. These improvements are designed to create a more resilient and reliable water network for the Lifford area.
Farrans is currently operating across the North West region as part of Uisce Éireann's Water and Waste Water Multi-Supplier Framework, covering Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Galway, Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan, and Mayo. The contractor has deployed 70 direct staff and over 200 subcontractor personnel, with 30 specialist squads currently active on various tasks, including leak detection, wastewater services, and the installation or rehabilitation of mains.
Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, welcomed the project's conclusion: "Replacing this stretch of water mains along the N15 at The Haw has delivered long-term benefits for our customers, including improved water quality and greater confidence in their supply. Our crews worked hard to minimise disruption, and we are grateful to the local community for their patience and support as we delivered these essential works."
Uisce Éireann continues to oversee the delivery of public drinking water and wastewater services across Ireland.
