Galway-headquartered construction firm Coffey has been awarded the contract for the South Kilworth Sewage Treatment Works (STW) project in Leicestershire. The works are part of Severn Trent’s AMP8 investment programme and are aimed at improving permit compliance and addressing issues related to dry-weather flow.
A significant feature of this upgrade is the implementation of natural coagulant dosing. Following successful trials at the site, this project will represent the first permanent installation of the technology. The use of a natural coagulant is designed to offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional methods, potentially reducing the requirement for tertiary solids removal processes.
The comprehensive scope of the project includes:
• New inlet arrangements.
• Flow control and balancing infrastructure.
• Ferric dosing systems.
• On-site laboratory facilities.
• Associated civil engineering works.
• Full mechanical and electrical installations.
Work on the site is scheduled to commence in mid-May. Collaborative efforts are already well underway between the teams involved in the design, procurement, and construction stages to ensure a seamless delivery.
This latest contract win reinforces Coffey’s position as a key player in the UK's water and wastewater sector. Beyond water infrastructure, the firm maintains a significant presence across the energy, transport, and civil engineering industries.
