Uisce Éireann has commenced significant infrastructure works this week to replace more than 250m of deteriorating water mains in Athenry.

The project focuses on several key areas, including Barrack Street, Abbey Row, Caheroyn Road, and the Crescent. By replacing these ageing pipes, the utility provider aims to strengthen the local network, reduce the frequency of service disruptions, and significantly cut down on the volume of treated water lost to underground leaks.

Enda Mac Namara of Uisce Éireann welcomed the start of the works, noting that the upgrades will enhance both the resilience of the network and the quality of water delivered to homes and businesses.

"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, every home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we're helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Athenry now and for generations to come," Enda said.

The replacement works are being carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The project is moving at pace, with completion currently anticipated by this summer.
