Phoenix Energy has unveiled Eco Heroes, a fully funded environmental education programme for primary schools in Northern Ireland, encouraging pupils aged eight to 11 to protect the planet through simple, everyday actions.
The initiative opened with a launch at St Patrick's Primary School, Legamaddy, for a P7 class, followed by a visit to Loughview Integrated Primary School. It will now be offered more widely to schools across the Phoenix Energy licensed area.
Through interactive sessions, pupils explore local biodiversity, climate change and the future of energy. The programme also introduces how Phoenix Energy is progressing biomethane as a sustainable, renewable alternative to natural gas.
Karen McKnight, Eco Heroes programme facilitator, said: "Eco Heroes is a fantastic way for children to learn about local biodiversity, climate change, saving energy in the home, recycling and energy. We use local examples, sorting challenges and a creative activity to make the learning fun."
Bronagh Reid, P7 teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School Legamaddy said: "The Eco Heroes session was engaging and informative, helping pupils develop a real understanding of how their everyday actions can protect the environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on activities and left feeling motivated to make positive changes at home and in school."
