Dublin City Council has welcomed Transport Infrastructure Ireland's acquisition of the former Hammerson site on O'Connell Street, describing it as a significant milestone in advancing MetroLink and progressing the 10 'Big Moves' outlined in the Taoiseach's Taskforce Report.
Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daryl Barron said: "I warmly welcome the news that Transport Infrastructure Ireland has acquired the previous Hammerson site on O'Connell Street in Dublin's North Inner City, to facilitate the development of MetroLink. As the newly elected Lord Mayor of Dublin, I am dedicated to collaborating with partners in revitalizing our empty spaces and breathing new life into our neighborhoods, all whilst celebrating our local heritage. Together, we are creating a city where everyone can live and grow with pride."
Mr. Robert Watt, Head of Dublin City Council's Project Management Unit said: "TII's investment is about much more than a single project. It forms part of a wider movement that is transforming our city, bringing new life to underused and vacant sites, and creating vibrant places where people can live, work and enjoy. Every new development builds momentum. This development represents an opportunity to diversify the economic profile of the street and immediate environs, to increase the supply of high-quality residential housing on O'Connell St and critically, build a more vibrant urban environment. This is the ambitious, sustainable regeneration O'Connell St needs. Leading the delivery of the Taoiseach's Taskforce, I look forward to working with our partners in TII to support development that delivers lasting benefits for our communities and help shape a more dynamic city centre for the future."
