Record Turnout At Gas Networks Ireland-Sponsored Cork BHAA 5km Road Race

Hannah Steeds and Vivian Foley were first home in the women's and men's races at the Gas Networks Ireland-sponsored Cork BHAA 5km on Wednesday, 22 July, with a record 780 participants completing the course along the Blackrock and Mahon Greenway.

The after-work race began on the Blackrock–Mahon Greenway and finished beside Blackrock Castle, cementing its status as one of Cork's most popular workplace sporting fixtures and a celebration of health, wellbeing and community spirit.

Steeds led the women's field in 16:50, followed by Orla Drumm (17:37) and Andrea Aza Villamor (17:46).

Foley won the men's race in 15:54, with Mark McGarry second in 16:21 and Padraig Sheahan third in 16:28.

Ross Gallagher topped the Visually Impaired category, guided by Patrick Murphy, while Jerry Forde won the Wheelchair category.

Gas Networks Ireland's Director of Business Services, Ian O'Flynn said: "The continued success of the Cork BHAA 5km road race reflects the growing enthusiasm for health, wellbeing, and community participation across Cork. Whether participants were chasing a personal best, taking part with colleagues, or completing their first 5km, every runner contributed to the fantastic atmosphere on the day. We are proud to support an event that promotes inclusivity, connection and active lifestyles."

The Business Houses Athletic Association (BHAA) is a voluntary organisation that encourages colleagues to train and compete together through a year-round programme of road races, fostering physical activity, teamwork and camaraderie.

Gas Networks Ireland has supported the Cork BHAA 5km since 2012, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and strong community connections.
