The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed that preparatory works to facilitate structural repairs on the A6 Glenshane Road at Dungiven (Carn) will start in the week beginning Monday 27 July 2026. The essential scheme is required to maintain the carriageway and drainage infrastructure at this location.
In the initial phase, the Belfast-bound hard shoulder will be converted into a temporary running lane for approximately 400 metres, with a lane closure in place.
Subsequent works will include the replacement of a section of drainage culvert and embankment repairs. These elements will proceed as soon as practicable, with further details to follow.
The Department has scheduled the operations and traffic management to minimise disruption and will accommodate local access where possible. However, motorists should expect some delays, allow additional time when travelling near the works, and adhere to all temporary traffic restrictions.
The Department thanked residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while these essential repairs are carried out.
