Uisce Éireann has begun preparatory activity for a significant upgrade of Waterford City’s wastewater network, a scheme designed to accommodate future development, protect the local environment and deliver lasting benefits for residents.

As the city expands, the wastewater system must keep pace. The planned improvements are intended to ensure reliable compliance with environmental standards while meeting Waterford’s long-term needs.

On-the-ground investigations, a core part of the project design, are due to start in late July 2026 and will be undertaken by Causeway Geotech Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

The programme covers an upgrade of the Island View Pumping Station and enhancements to the wastewater network serving Knockboy, Dunmore Road and neighbouring districts.

After the design is finalised, Uisce Éireann will seek the statutory, regulatory and budgetary approvals required to deliver the new infrastructure, and has pledged to keep the community updated as the scheme advances.
