Hub Packaging has entered a new agreement with renewable energy provider 3T Power to supply 100% locally generated renewable electricity across its operations, marking a major step forward in the company's sustainability plans and reducing its Scope 2 emissions to zero.
The independent supplier, which employs more than 50 people across the Island of Ireland and Scotland, serves customers in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial and retail sectors throughout the UK and Ireland.
Under the switch, Hub Packaging's facilities, warehousing, office accommodation and electric vehicle charging points are now powered solely by renewable electricity generated within Northern Ireland.
The change forms part of a wider programme aimed at cutting operational emissions while safeguarding the reliability and service standards that customers expect from the business.
Julian Coldrick, Director of Sustainability at Hub Packaging, said: "Two critical factors compelled Hub Packaging to choose 3T Power as our next energy partner. Firstly, that 3T Power are supplying fully traceable 100% renewable energy, and secondly, their commitment to providing renewable energy on a large scale within Northern Ireland. Making the switch to 3T Power reduced our Scope 2 emissions to zero, which is pretty cool."
With growing pressure on the packaging industry to decarbonise amid changing customer expectations, supply chain requirements and broader ESG commitments, Hub Packaging says the investment shows environmental responsibility can go hand in hand with operational excellence.
Reliable, resilient energy remains essential to efficient manufacturing, supporting uninterrupted operations and consistent, high-quality output.
The partnership with 3T Power also underlines a shared goal of advancing Northern Ireland’s low-carbon transition through investment in local businesses and renewable infrastructure. By selecting an independent Northern Ireland energy provider, Hub Packaging is helping to strengthen regional renewable capacity and support local economic growth.
John-Francis Collins, Sales Manager at 3T Power, welcomed the partnership: "Businesses across Northern Ireland are increasingly looking for practical ways to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising operational performance. We’re delighted to be supporting Hub Packaging on its sustainability journey by supplying 100% locally generated renewable electricity and working alongside a business that shares our commitment to responsible growth and long-term environmental stewardship."
As more organisations scrutinise suppliers' environmental performance, Hub Packaging believes initiatives like this will enhance its appeal to those seeking resilient, sustainable supply chains.
The renewable electricity move builds on the company’s broader ESG strategy, including ongoing investment in people and infrastructure to drive continuous environmental improvements across the business.
