Sligo Town Residents To Benefit From Emmet Place Water Network Upgrade

Construction News Image

Homes in Emmet Place, Sligo, are set for a more dependable water supply as Uisce Éireann begins network improvement works this week.

The scheme will replace ageing backyard water mains and service connections to cut leakage, enhance water quality and strengthen the local system.

Many older estates have water connections running to the rear of properties. Over time, these can deteriorate, becoming a major source of leaks and service issues.

Because backyard services are often shared between neighbouring homes, bursts and leaks can be harder to find and fix. When problems occur, several properties can be affected, leading to low pressure and interruptions to supply.

At Emmet Place, the project will decommission outdated backyard mains and install approximately 100 metres of new water main along the public road. Once finished, customers are expected to benefit from a more secure and resilient supply.

Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said: "Replacing ageing backyard water mains is an important part of our ongoing work to improve water services for communities across Ireland. By installing new water mains and service connections at Emmet Place we will help reduce leakage, improve water quality, and provide a more reliable water supply for customers for years to come. We would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out."

Farrans Construction will deliver the upgrade on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion anticipated in late autumn.
