£174,000 Resurfacing Scheme Begins In L' Derry

Construction News Image

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a £174,000 carriageway resurfacing project for Garden City and Ballynasilloe Avenue in Derry will get under way on Monday 3 August 2026.

The scheme includes asphalt resurfacing along 305 metres of the U1515 Garden City and Ballynasilloe Avenue, starting 10 metres east of the centreline of its junction with the U1515 Kingsfort Park and running towards the A1002 Culmore Road. The first phase will see preparatory civil engineering works carried out ahead of resurfacing.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment in the City of Derry which will deliver significant benefits for road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To deliver the works safely, lane closures will be required during the programme. Road users are asked to drive with extra care in the area.

The Department has programmed operations and traffic management to reduce disruption as far as possible. While local access and Translink bus services will be accommodated, some delays are expected, and motorists should allow extra time and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 11 September 2026. The Department will keep the public informed of any changes.
