Uisce Éireann has begun a project to upgrade and strengthen the water network serving Annamoe, Co Wicklow, improving the resilience and reliability of supplies for the years ahead.

Under the Raheen Water Supply Rationalisation Project, a new water main will be installed between Roundwood Reservoir and Raheen Water Treatment Plant. This will connect the Laragh–Annamoe supply to the Vartry water supply zone, providing a more secure and robust service for residents and businesses in Annamoe, Laragh and Glendalough.

The investment will significantly enhance water quality, reliability and long‑term capacity locally, while also supporting future growth and development across the region.

Commenting on the scheme, Uisce Éireann's Barry Butler said: "We are delighted to be delivering this critical water supply project for the communities in Annamoe, Laragh and Glendalough. The existing drinking water infrastructure supplying the area is not sufficient to meet current demand. This project will not only improve water supply for our customers in the area, it will also facilitate future growth and development, including the delivery of new housing."

The works include laying approximately 3.2km of new water main along the L‑1059, L‑1060 and R755 roads. As well as bolstering the security and resilience of supply, the project will help ensure the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water across the area.

Construction is due to get under way this week and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

To enable safe delivery, traffic management will be required throughout. Phased road closures will be in place on sections of the L‑1059 and L‑1060 from August 2026 for approximately two months, with local and emergency access maintained at all times.
