Around 138 customers on the Letterfrack Public Water Supply in Co Galway have been advised to boil their water after mechanical issues at the local treatment plant.
Uisce Éireann said it is working with the HSE to resolve the problem and remove the notice as soon as it is safe to do so.
Uisce Éireann confirmed the Boil Water Notice on 15 August 2026 as a precaution to protect public health.
Specialist drinking water teams are addressing the mechanical faults at the plant in consultation with the HSE, with the aim of lifting the notice quickly and safely.
Leo O'Shea of Uisce Éireann said: "Public health is Uisce Éireann's number one priority, and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health.
"We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses and would like to assure customers that we are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and as safely possible."
Uisce Éireann noted that drinking water standards, as set out in EU Drinking Water regulations, are stringent and include wide safety margins. Where risks are identified through enhanced testing and monitoring, the HSE is consulted and Boil Water Notices are issued to safeguard public health. Immediate actions are taken to address the root cause to enable the notice to be lifted at the earliest safe opportunity, with HSE agreement.
Customers registered as vulnerable are contacted directly about Boil Water Notices. The utility reminds the public that tap water is safe to consume once it has been boiled and cooled.
