Cllr Daithí Doolan Urges Dublin Housing Applicants To Reply Or Risk Removal

Households on Dublin City Council’s housing list must return verification letters by 2 September or risk being removed, Cllr Daithí Doolan has warned.

The Sinn Féin leader on Dublin City Council issued the appeal as the council begins work on the 2026 Social Housing Needs Assessment, which involves posting letters to all households currently on the waiting list.

Doolan said applicants need to act promptly to protect their status on the list, with the first batch of letters due this week and further follow-ups for non-respondents in September.

Cllr Doolan said: "Dublin City Council are sending out letters to everyone on the council’s housing list asking if they wish to remain on the housing list. Householders on the council’s housing list must return these letters before September 2nd. Failure to do so will result in a household’s removal from the housing list.

"The first letter will be issued this week and will ask householders to send it back by September 2nd. A second letter will be sent out in September to those who have not returned the letter. Failure to respond will result in housing applications being cancelled.

"Every year people do not return this letter and are shocked when they realise they are no longer on the housing list. This will remove any chance of being housed by Dublin City Council.

"Any household that has been assessed since August 5th 2025 will not be part of this assessment. Also, those with a known disability or in emergency accommodation will automatically be kept on this list. Finally, HAP and RAS tenants and those on the transfer list are not part of the assessment and won’t receive any letters.

"If you are on the housing list and have changed addresses, I would urge you to contact your local council offices immediately, your letter could go to your original address, and you will miss the opportunity to remain on the housing list.

"I would plead with people to ensure your letters get returned to Dublin City Council. Failure to do so will cost you your place on the council housing list."

He stressed that those assessed since 5 August 2025 are excluded from this review, and people with a known disability or in emergency accommodation will remain on the list automatically. HAP and RAS tenants, as well as those on the transfer list, are not part of this assessment and will not receive letters.

Applicants who have moved address are urged to contact their local council office immediately to ensure the correspondence reaches them in time.
