City Quays Gardens Earns Belfast Harbour Its First Green Flag

Belfast Harbour has been awarded its first Green Flag Award for City Quays Gardens, recognising the site’s role in providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming public green space.

Drawing on the city's maritime and industrial heritage, City Quays Gardens is the first scheme in Northern Ireland to be designed to One Planet Living environmental standards, underscoring Belfast Harbour’s commitment to sustainability.

The Green Flag Award programme, administered in Northern Ireland by Live Here Love Here, is the UK’s benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces. This success comes after Belfast Harbour Marina received a Blue Flag earlier in the summer, making it the organisation's second major environmental accolade this year.

Simon Gibson, Belfast Harbour Sustainability Lead, said: "We are delighted to see City Quays Gardens recognised with a Green Flag Award this year. Since it opened in 2025, it has set a benchmark for what is possible in Northern Ireland through sustainable landscape architecture.
