Arbour Housing has completed the John Street apartment scheme in Derry-Londonderry, with the first tenants now moving into 40 purpose-built social homes for people aged 55 and over.

The £7.5 million project comprises 24 two-bedroom and 16 one-bedroom apartments. Designed for independent living, the properties are modern, accessible and close to services, amenities and public transport, helping residents stay active and connected.

Part-funded by a £4.7 million grant from the Department for Communities via the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the development occupies a prominent city-centre site between John Street and Foyle Road.

The scheme adds to the supply of affordable homes in an area of high demand. Latest figures indicate more than 5,000 households are in housing stress across Derry City and Strabane District, underlining the scale of local need.

Delivered with contractor Brendan Loughran & Sons and McGirr Architects, the apartments meet Lifetime Homes and Secure by Design standards to maximise accessibility, safety and adaptability. Energy-efficient measures have been included to cut running costs and support sustainable living.
