Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £262,000 project to resurface the A28 Armagh Road Roundabout in Newry, with work scheduled to start on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The scheme includes asphalt resurfacing of the roundabout and adjoining side roads, stretching between Kidds Road, the Shepherds Way Roundabout, and towards Shelbourne Motors.

The Infrastructure Minister said: "This is a substantial investment for the Newry area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Newry area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 25 September 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To facilitate safe delivery, overnight road closures will operate from Sunday 13 September to Friday 25 September 2026, between 8.00pm and 6.00am each night.

Diversion 1: A1 Newry by-pass, A27 Newry by-pass, A27 Tandragee Road, A1 Tandragee Road, B114 Tannyoky Road, A27 Newry Road, A27 Church Street, A27 Chapel Street, B114 Meeting Street, B2 Ballyvally Road, A28 Gosford Road, A28 Armagh Road.

Diversion 2: A28 Armagh Road, A1 Armagh Road, A27 Tandragee Road.

The Department has programmed the works and traffic management to minimise disruption. While local access will be accommodated where possible, road users should expect some delays, allow additional time and comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the scheme is expected to be substantially complete by Friday 25 September 2026.
