Waterford City and County Council and the Lismore Town Team have opened the first phase of public consultation to shape a Town Centre First Plan for Lismore.
The plan will set out a community-led vision for the town and pinpoint a range of potential regeneration projects to be delivered over the coming years. With the process now under way, residents, businesses and visitors are being asked to share suggestions and observations so the first consultation captures local priorities.
The newly established Town Team is leading the work, supported by Waterford City and County Council and award-winning planning and landscape consultants The Paul Hogarth Company.
Cathaoirleach of the Dungarvan and Lismore Municipal District, Cllr. John Pratt welcomed the announcement of the consultation process: "It is excellent to see the Lismore Town Centre First process starting with a consultation process. As we have seen elsewhere in the county, this plan will play a key role in attracting investment and informing policy and we look forward to seeing the ideas that emerge from the community."
In launching the first consultation process, Chair of the Town Team, Gráinne Moynihan added: "We are delighted to get this process underway, having formed the local Town Team in April of this year. This plan is a great opportunity for Lismore to come together and identify projects that can make the town an even better place in which to live, work and visit."
People can take part by completing a short survey and making submissions by 20 September, either online at awqaw573pjr.typeform.com/LismoreTCF or via paper forms available at Lismore Heritage Centre. A drop-in public event will also run from 11am to 7pm on Friday, 11 September at The Blue House, Main Street, Lismore (P51 HX96).
Dr James Hennessey, Director of The Paul Hogarth Company, said: "We hope that as many people as possible can come along to meet the team and share their views on what is best for Lismore. This local feedback will then form the foundations upon which the Lismore Town Centre First Plan will be built over the next few months, with completion due early next year."
The Town Centre First Plan is funded by Waterford City and County Council as part of the Irish Government's Town Centre First policy launched in 2022. Lismore Town Team, formed in April 2026, comprises volunteers from across the community. The Paul Hogarth Company has been appointed to support the team and brings extensive experience from similar assignments in Waterford and beyond. A second consultation on the draft plan will follow later this year, with completion anticipated in early 2027. All proposals emerging from the plan will be subject to funding and the necessary statutory consents.
