Uisce Éireann will replace more than 1km of ageing water mains on the Dublin Road (R132) in Kilsough, Balbriggan, to bolster supply, improve water quality and cut leakage.
The utility said the scheme will enhance reliability for homes and businesses, lower the risk of bursts and outages, and conserve treated drinking water by tackling losses from damaged pipes.
Crews are set to install over 1km of modern pipework along the R132, reinforcing the local network and reducing disruption for customers once complete.
The existing mains have been susceptible to failures, leading to interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water, a resource the community relies on.
Welcoming the project, Declan Healy of Uisce Éireann said: "These works are about providing customers in Balbriggan with a more reliable water supply. By replacing the pipes with new, modern water mains, we can strengthen the local network, reduce bursts and help protect the supply for homes and businesses. We know works like this can cause some short-term disruption, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of the local community as we deliver this important upgrade."
GMC Utilities Group will deliver the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in early 2027.
Customers with queries can call Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 or visit the Water Supply Updates section of the website for regular information.
To safeguard the public and work crews, traffic management will operate during construction, including phased stop–go controls. Access for local residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times, and measures are in place to keep disruption to a minimum.
With more than 65,000 km of underground water pipes nationwide, many leaks are difficult to detect, but progress is being made: national leakage has fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36% today. Further details are available on Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme page.
