Clare County Council has appointed the design team for a new Ashline Link Road in Ennis, to be funded through the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage's Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) programme, managed by the Housing Activation Office.
Punch Consulting Engineers, based on Henry Street in Limerick, have been selected as Civil and Structural Engineering Consultants, including Mechanical and Electrical services. Rogerson Reddan & Associates Ltd., also of Limerick, have been appointed as Quantity Surveyors.
The scheme is intended to support the development of residential lands at Ashline and improve access to strategically zoned sites identified for future housing growth.
Chief Executive of Clare County Council, Gordon Daly, said: "This infrastructure, when completed, will facilitate direct access to over 8.5 hectares of zoned lands at Ashline with the potential for approximately 300 new homes. It will also provide an access point to further lands to the North and act as a catalyst for the development of this land, which has been rezoned as part of Clare County Council’s recent variation to the County Development Plan."
Director of Service, Housing Delivery, Infrastructure Provision & Land Activation, Clare County Council, Alan Farrell, said: "The new corridor is part of the work being undertaken by Clare County Council to activate housing lands that will provide for starter homes, social and private housing. It will also function as a sustainable mobility spine designed to reduce transport-related emissions and support compact, low-carbon growth. High-quality cycle tracks, footpaths, and pedestrian-priority measures will create safe, climate-friendly routes to nearby services, while the design will accommodate future public transport enhancements, improved infrastructure for the adjacent school and connections to wider greenway networks."
The appointments mark the next phase of the project, with detailed design work now set to begin.
