The Construction Industry Federation has announced the appointment of Mr Tom Parlon as Director General of the organisation.
Following a distinguished career in Irish public life as President of the Irish Farmers’ Association and for the past five years, as Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Mr Parlon succeeds Liam Kelleher who has been Director General of the Construction Industry Federation for the past 15 years, which has been a period of unprecedented growth in the Irish construction industry and in the importance of the industry to the Irish economy.
Mr Parlon takes up the post on October 1, 2007.
The Federation said that it looked forward to his guidance as the industry faces the challenges of implementing the National Development Plan, and meets the challenges posed by climate change issues.
Earlier this year the Construction Industry Federation welcomed the publication of the National Development Plan 2007-2013 by the Government, particularly those measures aimed at addressing sectoral infrastructure deficits and regional imbalances.
