Newtownabbey Borough Council have advised visitors to Ballyclare Cemetery that extension work is due to start from Monday 13 August. This will cause disruption in the cemetery, as contractors will be using the main access road.
Margaret Lindsay, Parks and Cemeteries Manager, said: “We would like to apologise to visitors for any inconvenience over the next few months at Ballyclare Cemetery. However, the extension work is necessary to improve facilities and plans also include a beautiful garden area at the bottom of the cemetery.
We are working closely with the contractors to ensure disruption to burials will be minimised as much as possible. During the works there will be parking restrictions and as the toilets will be refurbished, they will be closed from mid-September for approximately 4 weeks. The Council will provide temporary toilet facilities during this period.”
Extension work will start on Monday 13 August and should be completed by Christmas 2007.
