Abbott Ireland Pharmaceutical Operations (AIPO) in Sligo, has become the first organisation in the northwest of Ireland to have its training and development systems for its engineering professionals formally Accredited by Engineers Ireland.
AIPO was established in 2002, designed specifically to manufacture the active pharmaceutical ingredients, which support the therapeutic areas of cardiology, neurology, oncology and urology.
The state-of-the-art plant at Manorhamilton Road employs 105 staff, including 30 engineering professionals. Engineers Ireland made the maximum possible three year CPD Accreditation award to AIPO following the recent audit.
Commenting on the importance of the award, AIPO HR Manager, Samantha Commons said: "Abbott Ireland Pharmaceutical Operations are proud to be recognised by Engineers Ireland for our Continuing Professional Development. Knowledge Sharing is a core part of our overall site strategy and we hope that through our association with Engineers Ireland we can continue to add value to our Business and our employees through Lifelong Learning."
Francis Fidgeon, Chairman of the northwest region of Engineers Ireland, congratulated AIPO on their achievement. He said: "The North-West region continues to offer very rewarding employment opportunities for engineers and technicians, coupled with our unique coastal environment and excellent quality of life.
“I am delighted to see AIPO, Sligo, achieving 'CPD Accredited company' status. It is certainly a reflection on the calibre of that organisation and the learning opportunities that exist there. I hope other leading organisations in the North-West region will now similarly pursue CPD Accreditation as a hallmark for best-practice in training & development systems for technical staff."
