A company has been given three months to rebuild a 19th Century convent which was demolished.
Kimpton Vale and its principal Laurence Keegan were instructed by Dublin City Council the Presentation Convent in Terenure must be reconstructed by next November.
The firm demolished the building two weeks after the council began the process of adding it to the Record of Protected Structures (RPS), on 5 November last year.
Dublin Council had previously issued re-instatement order, which obliged the structure to be rebuilt by March of this year. However, the council were forced to withdraw it because the title of the property was in doubt.
The property was conveyed to Laurence Keegan in May 2006, and this meant another notice was required to be served on both Mr Keegan and the company.
Kimpton Vales is also facing legal proceedings, as it did not secure planning permission before it demolished the convent. It could be fined up to 12.7 million euro.
Presentation Convent, built in the 1830s, was part of a three-acre site on Terenure Road West. It was sold for infill development.
It will now be reinstated “to the satisfaction of the planning department of Dublin City Council”.
