Property developer Sean Dunne has announced he will lodge an application for permission to build a 37-storey tower in Ballsbridge, Dublin.
The Mountbrook Homes head will lodge the application with Dublin City Council for the site of the former Jury’s Hotel in Ballsbridge.
It is understood the diamond shaped 132-metre building will be built on a seven-acre site which is currently occupied by Jury’s and the Berkley Court Hotel.
The proposed development will include a multi-storey embassy complex, shops, offices, theatres, an ice rink and a 232-bedroom luxury hotel. It will be 12 metres taller than the Dublin Spire in O’Connell Street.
A local plan was rejected by Dublin City Councillors in June, which would have allowed high rise developments up to 20 storeys. However, developers said the project is required to be 37-storeys high due to commercial reasons.
Plans for the application are to be lodged with Dublin City Council this morning, and will be on display to the public in Berkley Court Hotel until Sunday.
