One in four Irish homeowners have changed address in the past year, leading to a loss of €16 million for marketing businesses, according to the latest research.
NewAddress.ie, also found that half of respondents do not intend to move within the next year.
Around two thirds of Irish residents also receive one item of unwanted post per week, and 7.8 per cent receive over five items of unwanted mail. This adds up to annual volumes ranging between 52 and 260 per year, which costs Irish businesses over €16 million every year.
Managing Director of NewAddress.ie, said: "With over 66 per cent of those surveyed supporting the need for a new postal code system in Ireland it is clear that the issue of previous resident and unwanted mail is foremost in people’s minds."
The survey also showed that trading has been the main reason for people moving house, with over a quarter of those surveyed moving to bigger homes.
