A new golf hotel to the west of Dublin may be built after developer Jim Mansfield announced plans for a 170 bedroom property at Palmerstown Demesne in Johnstown, County Kildare.

It is understood the plans include a 31,000 sq metre hotel beside the clubhouse of the existing golf course there. The six-storey hotel would also include a gym, spa, swimming pool and 470 car parking spaces.

The owner of the Citywest golf complex at Saggart is also seeking permission for 45 townhouses, four shops and a restaurant, using both nearby existing buildings and infill development.

Mr Mansfield has also proposed the construction of more than 30 townhouses in the walled garden, and 46 five bedroom lodges elsewhere on the land as well as a boardwalk along the River Morrell.
