A new report by the ESRI has revealed the number of job vacancies in the economy dropped in August.

The decrease was affected by a decline in the construction sector, which saw a downturn of five percentage points to five per cent - the lowest vacancy rate the sector has recorded since the survey began in May 2002.

Construction employers have also predicted a 10 per cent decline in employment levels in the sector.

The report also revealed construction managers and quantity surveyors were the most difficult roles to fill in the industry. However, while construction sector employers' outlook on jobs has improved, they continue to be less optimistic about their future employment needs and expect a fall in employment in the coming months.
