Local engineering firm Allen Mechanical Services, who install heating systems and solar thermal panels in homes and businesses across Northern Ireland, have won two awards for their excellence in solar installation - the Environment 2010 Award and the ‘Green Earth’ calendar competition.

Organised by Worcester, Bosch Group, the two initiatives recognise installers who take an environmentally responsible approach to their work.

The Dromore-based company will now feature in Worcester’s new 2008 'Green Earth' Calendar and is the running for the overall Environment 2010 winner, which will be announced next year.

Managing Director of Allen Mechanical Services, David Allen said: "We are thrilled to be associated with such prestigious awards and to achieve this level of recognition for our work in renewable energy. Companies are becoming increasingly aware of the need to turn to renewable energy and not just in a corporate and socially responsible way but for commercial purposes also. As energy costs continue to rise, people are realising that alternatives such as solar power is one way of reducing these costs in the long term."
