Donegal crane firm Mantis Cranes has signed a landmark deal on a Government Trade Mission to the US which will see it introducing self erecting cranes into the American Market, according to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, TD.
Speaking from New York where he witnessed the signing of the deal, Minister Martin congratulated the Killygordan-based company and its team of 29 workers for showing that Ireland can lead the way in the introduction of hydraulic self erecting cranes into this major market.
"Through investment in Research and Development, with the active support of Enterprise Ireland, the team at Killygordan has ensured Mantis has been at the forefront of the development of these cranes which are a common sight at construction projects throughout Ireland and Britain," the Minister said.
"By signing this deal with an American partner, Celtic Cranes of New York, Mantis and its Donegal team have shown a willingness to push their boundaries even further."
He continued: "Under the deal cranes researched and manufactured in Donegal will be available for sale or rent in the United States for the first time. Cranes will sell for $150,000 each, and with a ready market for about 6,000 self erecting cranes the potential is enormous.
"It is fitting this signing is taking place on the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to the East coast of America, as the State Agency is a strong partner of Mantis and of the over 60 other Irish companies on this trip which are ready to move in on potential markets in the US."
