Streets Ahead Project Advances To The Next Stage

In 2005, Turner & Townsend was appointed by the Department for Social Development as part of an integrated design team led by EDAW to prepare a master plan for the £16m regeneration of the public realm in Belfast City Centre.

The project has now progressed beyond design development to first phase construction beginning in autumn 2007.

The vision created by this exercise, when completed, will raise the quality and profile of the burgeoning City as an international destination. The entire development is to be phased over a 10 year period, with the first phase commencing on site in 2007 and completing in 2009.

As part of the integrated design team Turner & Townsend have provided the following services, completion of a cost plan as part of the masterplanning exercise, provision of cost advice during the development of Phase 1 to Design Stage D and assisted with the short-listing of potential contractors to proceed to the tendering stage of the Design & Construct Contract.

Further services included the provision of detailed costings for a portion of Phase 1, which was developed to Design Stage E, to facilitate negotiations with the preferred Contractor to achieve a target cost for the project under the NEC3 Form of Contract and provision of cost management services during the construction period, concluding with the agreement of the final cost.

George McComish, Director, said: "T&T are delighted to have secured the cost management role in such a prestigious project. It is a great privilege to have key involvement in a scheme that will enhance Belfast as a city and benefit many of its stakeholders including T&T who have just recently relocated to new premises in the city centre."
