Minister for Social Development Margaret Ritchie today said she would take time to consider the way forward for the former Andersonstown PSNI site, after it was announced the Carvill Group has decided to withdraw its proposals to develop the site.
"I have been informed by the Carvill Group that, with regret, they have decided to withdraw their proposal to develop the site of the former Andersonstown PSNI station," the Minister said. "The Carvill Group indicated that the potential for significant delay in getting their proposals agreed and through the planning system would have a detrimental knock-on effect on their other development plans."
Ms Ritchie continued: "I am disappointed that the Carvill Group now feel that they are unable to go forward with their interest in the site. In our efforts to regenerate areas which suffer from deprivation and physical dereliction, the contribution of the private sector is a significant factor and it is disappointing that this investment proposal has been lost."
The Minister concluded by saying she would consider the matter further and explore every possible option for the site.
