The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has approved a further €611,000 for a housing project in Ennis, less than a week after it allocated €1.1 million for two other housing projects in Cratloe in Ennis.
The three projects will provide a total of 14 units of accommodation for persons with a disability.
Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Tony Killeen, has described the Government's allocation of €1.7m funding for local housing projects as "hugely positive news for the disability sector in Clare".
Minister Killeen said: "All in all these housing projects are hugely positive developments for local people with a disability, their families, carers, support workers, and organisations in the community that assist people with a disability."
This latest announcement complements last week's funding allocation for the provision of two units of accommodation at Brookville, Lahinch Road, Ennis and six units of accommodation at Green Hill, Cratloemoyle, Cratloe.
A sum of €785,350 has been allocated for the housing project in Cratloe. The accommodation is being provided by Bawnmore Housing Association Limited, in co-operation with Clare County Council and will be allocated to disabled persons.
Meanwhile, €299,005 has been set aside for the housing project in Ennis where the accommodation is being provided by Banner Housing Association Limited, in co-operation with Clare County Council.
