Experts from government, property, finance and academia will gather at a seminar hosted by the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School to discuss the critical issues facing the Irish property market.

'Property: The shape of things to come' will take place on November 19 with a keynote speech followed by two interactive panel discussions.

Announcing the property seminar, Professor Tom Begley, Dean, UCD School of Business, who will chair the session said: "The seminar is one of the first of its kind in Ireland and will provide a much needed platform to discuss the major issues facing this key sector from a planning, economic and development perspective."

One of Americas leading financial economists Professor Robert Van Order will kick off the event with a keynote speech on 'Ireland in the World Credit Market'. Property expert Van Order will focus on key issues such as securitising loans, loan risk and the rise and fall of property values internationally and in Ireland.

Van Order is joined in the first panel discussion of the day 'Forces Shaping the Irish Property Market' by Geraldine Tallon, Secretary General at the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government and Economist Colm McCarthy of UCD who will both be talking specifically about planning and economic issues that can and will impact the Irish property market over the coming years.

There has been much debate in recent times over the pros and cons of proposed large scale property developments in Ireland and the second panel discussion 'Major Irish Developments' will examine how these developments will shape our environment. This panel includes industry leaders such as Paul Maloney, Chief Executive of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, Michael Scollard, Development Director of the Jury's Berkeley Court Development for Mountbrook Property Group and Mike Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Titanic Quarter, Belfast.
