A chance to visit the former landfill site on Dargan Road is being offered to the public on Saturday November 10 by Belfast City Council.
Belfast dumped its waste on the North Belfast site for more than 30 years, but it closed in March this year.
Now the council is planning to transform this huge 330 acre area of reclaimed land.
It will include Giant's Park, a major new open space, and an innovative new environmental park, which will focus on attracting organisations involved in environmental industries.
The council also plans to generate electricity from the methane gas that is created from the decomposing waste. This will help power the environmental park and the facilities in Giant's Park, with a significant surplus being sold back to the national grid.
If you are interested in hearing about the plans, there are three tours taking place – at 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
The tour involves travelling in a Land Rover, which may not be suitable for disabled people or people with mobility needs. If this affects you, contact the council and they will make the appropriate arrangements.
To book your place, call Emma Gilmore on 028 9032 0202 ext. 3618.
Access to the site is from the Dargan Road (off the Fortwilliam roundabout), opposite the Dale Farm offices. Car parking will be available.
