Architects have warned Dublin planners and developers to heed new apartment size regulations ahead of next month's high-rise proposals release.
According to new regulations passed by Dublin City Council apartments must be at least 85sq.m in size and have windows front and back; that's 40 per cent bigger than the current apartment dwellings in the city.
In addition to Heuston Station and the Docklands areas, the Liberties and Tara Street are now being considered for high-rise developments.
Tiernan McCarthy of ELM architects told a meeting of planners and developers yesterday that the council needs to allow higher buildings to cope with these requirements.
Mr McCarthy also called for higher density redevelopment of suburbs like Kilbarrack, which have an existing infrastructure but also a declining population.
