The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced details of its proposed decision to grant a licence to Dublin City Council to operate a waste incinerator at Poolbeg Peninsula in Dublin.
The EPA is satisfied that emissions from the facility will not adversely affect human health or the environment and will meet all relevant national and EU standards.
There are more than 109 individual conditions relating to the environmental management, operation, control and monitoring of the incinerator.
Conditions imposed include the following requirements: only residual waste will be incinerated, maximum annual intake of 600,000 tonnes of residual non-hazardous waste, the facility will operate as a combined heat and power plant to generate electricity and heat for a district heating scheme.
A 28-day public consultation period now follows in which objections and requests for oral hearings can be lodged. The consultation period ends December 18, 2007, objections should be directed to EPA Headquarters, PO Box 3000, Johnstown Castle Estate, Co Wexford.
