Ecocem To Build Cement Factory In France

ArcelorMittal, the world's biggest steel producer, has signed a deal with Ecocem cement group to build a cement factory in the south of France.

The €27 million joint venture will give Ecocem a 70 per cent stake in the business.

Ecocem has invested €6m in the new venture whilst ArcelorMittal has invested €3 million in equity in the new business.

The facility will be built on a site owned by Arcelor in Fos-Sur-Mer, about 30km west of Marseille, and it will manufacture around 700,000 tonnes of cement a year.

Ecocem Ireland is an independent, specialist producer of GGBS (Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag) cement. Ecocem is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ecocem Materials Limited, an Irish company set up in 2001 to undertake industrial developments in Europe in the production and use of GGBS.
