NI Civil Engineer Of The Year Winner Announced

Jane Chambers, Regional Director of White Young Green (WYG), the engineering, environmental, surveying, planning and project management consultancy, has fought off stiff competition to be voted 'Civil Engineer of the Year' at the inaugural Plant, Construction and Quarry Awards.

Jane was awarded the prestigious title after the judges commented: "Her career has developed from contracting to consultancy and she had developed expertise in financial and environmental, which in many cases are as important as technical excellence.

"She has been involved in many interesting and high profile projects in recent years and has made a substantial contribution to the profession. Jane is an excellent ambassador for Civil Engineering."

In her role as Regional Director with WYG, Jane is responsible for the civil engineering section in the company’s Belfast office, which during the last four years has grown by 400 per cent and now boasts an annual turnover of £1.5 million.

Ray Moore, Group Managing Director of WYG Ireland, said: "We're really pleased that Jane’s excellence has been recognised in the industry. Her award is well deserved and goes some way to reward her hard work, determination, strength and ability to remain focused on ambitions and goals.

"She is a true role model and we are proud to have her as part of our team."

In the past year Jane has been involved in many projects for WYG including the Integrated Wastewater Framework for NI Water, the development of the new Bangor Olympic pool, various new build and extension projects for Tesco and is currently responsible for the delivery of Giant’s Causeway Visitors Centre; Springvale E3 Campus, Belfast; Kilkeel Harbour Technical Studies and the Ulster Museum.

The awards, organised by 4square Media, publishers of Plant & Civil Engineer magazine, were staged recently at the Ramada Hotel in South Belfast. They sought to honour the best in the plant, construction and quarry sectors.

The Civil Engineer of the Year Award was sponsored by Mac-Rental
