Wexford County Buildings Deal Signed

The contract to build a new headquarters for Wexford County Council at Carriglawn, Newtown Road, Wexford, has been signed between Wexford County Council and Pierse Contracting.

The new County Buildings will comprise a landmark 10,500 sq m building which will house all of the County Council departments including a new Chamber for members of the Council.

The estimated construction cost is €40 million and the building is expected to be occupied in June 2009.

The new County Buildings has been designed by NORD Architecture who won the contract in an international competition.

The project team is led being by County Manager, Mr Eddie Breen, who said: "This is a great day for Wexford County Council, particularly our hard-working staff and councillors, but also for the general public who will have much better facilities when visiting the new County Buildings to conduct their business with us.

"We are delighted to be signing the contract today, particularly with a leading company such as Pierse Construction. The design by NORD Architecture is very exciting and it promises a wonderful new home for Wexford County Council."

Cllr Denis Kennedy, Chairman, Wexford County Council said: "The signing of this contract today brings us a step closer to having our new County Buildings which means good news for all our customers and the people who use our services. The new County Buildings will see a major improvement in the facilities available to all who have to visit the County Council offices."
